Spill Kits and Oil Spill Absorbents

A single uncontained spill can shut down a production line, contaminate soil and groundwater, trigger a regulatory notice and put your workforce at risk, all within minutes. In refineries, petrochemical plants, power stations and marine terminals across the Kingdom, the difference between a minor incident and a reportable environmental event is almost always the same thing: whether the right spill response equipment was within reach and whether the crew knew how to use it.

Industrial Machinery Est. is the authorized Hi-Point distributor in Saudi Arabia. From our base in Jubail Industrial City, we supply the complete Hi-Point range of spill kits, oil spill absorbents, containment products and pollution control equipment to industrial clients across the Eastern Province and nationwide.

Our Spill Kit Rage:

Complete kits are supplied in a range of capacities for oil, chemical and universal duties, with configurations spanning grab bags for vehicles and small work areas, wheeled bins for plant floors and drum or overpack kits for larger release volumes.

How to Use a Spill Kit

Every facility should train its personnel on site specific procedures, but the response sequence below applies to most industrial spills.
Step 1

Assess and Alert. Identify the substance using the SDS, judge the volume and check for ignition sources, confined space risk and drains in the path of flow. Raise the alarm and notify your supervisor. If the material is unknown, highly toxic or the release is beyond the capacity of your kit, evacuate and escalate to the emergency response team.

Step 2

Protect Yourself. Put on the PPE supplied in the kit before approaching the spill. Gloves, goggles, coveralls and, where required, respiratory protection appropriate to the substance.

Step 3

Stop the Source. If it is safe to do so, close the valve, upright the drum, plug the leak or isolate the line. Containing the source prevents the spill from growing while you work.

Step 4

Contain the Spread. Deploy socks, booms or berms around the perimeter of the spill, working from the outside inward. Cover or block nearby drains first. Preventing entry into drainage is the single most important action for avoiding a reportable environmental incident.

Step 5

Absorb. Apply pads, granules or absorbent rolls across the contained area. Allow the absorbent time to work rather than spreading the liquid further. Add more material until no free liquid remains.

Step 6

Collect and Dispose. Place used absorbents into the disposal bags supplied with the kit, seal them, label them as contaminated waste and store them in the designated area pending collection by an approved waste contractor. Decontaminate any reusable tools.

Step 6

Collect and Dispose. Place used absorbents into the disposal bags supplied with the kit, seal them, label them as contaminated waste and store them in the designated area pending collection by an approved waste contractor. Decontaminate any reusable tools.

Step 7

Restock and Report. Replace every item consumed from the kit immediately and return it to its station. Complete the incident report and review whether kit placement, size or type should change as a result.
